Bhagavad Gita - Favorite Selections Written before the time of Jesus, this text is a small part of a much larger epic teaching tale about spiritual life. A sensitive and powerful man stands facing the afflictions of his time, of his genetic heritage, of his family life. He is counseled by an enlightened being to stop being stuck. As he is a sensitive man, he is counseled to place his mind only in action, and to stop placing his mind in worrying about the fruits of his actions.
This class is an introduction to the text, in the original sanskrit. We select a few powerful verses and work through the sanskrit grammar, like a great coded map or puzzle, and use the roots of the words to explore their meaning. In addition, we sing the verses in the sanskrit!
Exploring the Gita in sanskrit allows for a direct, personal, felt-sense connection to its teachings - richer than commentary or English translation. |
